The name Munchen means home of the monks. It was first established as a Benedictine Monastery at Tegernsee between 750 AD. In 1158 Henry the Lion, Duke of Saxony built a bridge over the Isar River next to a settlement of monks and it became Munich.
We loved our time in Munich. The pretzels, cheese and meat was fantastic! The beauty of the city and surrounding countryside was indescribable.
St. Peter's Church
Marienplatz
People actually wear leiderhosen and the German folk
dresses, although I was told it was only for
Oktoberfest.
I love the doors of this church
German Maypole. This is the center
of each town
Beer carts and horses
Gingerbread cookies is a common gift for attendees
of Oktoberfest to give to children or significant
others.
We thought Oktoberfest would just have beer
but it also had a carnival and amazing street
food.
